Bayliss Earns WIAC Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete Award

MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Alexandra Bayliss (Sheboygan/North) has been selected the recipient of the 2013 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
A senior from Sheboygan, Wis. (North), Bayliss owns a 3.74 grade point average and is double-majoring in elementary education and Spanish.  She has been on the Dean's List every semester at UW-Whitewater and is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.  Bayliss was selected to the 2013 Capital One NCAA Division III Academic All-District® Six Women's At-Large First Team and been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as a scholar-athlete three times.
 
Bayliss is a four-time WIAC singles champion, winning No. 1 this year, No. 2 in 2012, No. 4 in 2011 and No. 5 in 2010.  She also claimed the No. 1 doubles crown in 2011 and 2012.  Bayliss, a team captain this year, claimed All-America recognition during the 2011-12 season, and has received her team's Most Valuable Player honor and Rookie of the Year award.  She has never lost a conference singles match in her four seasons.
 
Bayliss is a member of UW-Whitewater's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  She also has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, a local middle school tennis program, Reading with the Warhawks, Make a Difference Day and a 5K Run/Walk for multiple sclerosis.
 
Also nominated for this year's Scholar-Athlete Award were:  UW-Eau Claire's Katie Gillman (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.); UW-La Crosse's Olivia Hartwick (Sr., Fort Atkinson, Wis.); UW-Oshkosh's Morgan Counts (Sr., Oshkosh, Wis./West); and UW-Stevens Point's Rachel Brown (Sr., Neenah, Wis./St. Mary Central).
 
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October, 1984 - September, 1996. Kruckman was the women's athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971.
 
In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
