The UW-Whitewater women's tennis team cruised to victory at the eight team Warhawk Invitational Saturday in Whitewater. UW-W won each of the three singles flights, the number three doubles flight, took second at two doubles, and third at one doubles for a total of 47 points. Second place went to UW-La Crosse with 28.5 points.

Sydney Divelbiss (Middleton/Middleton) went to work in the number one singles draw defeating Andrea Kerwin of IWU in round one 6-1, 6-0; Bari Reynolds of Carthage in the semifinals 6-3, 6-4, and Shirlene Luk of Grinnell 6-1, 6-2 in the finals.
In the number two singles draw UW-W's
Alexandra Bayliss (Sheboygan/North) sailed to victory in straight sets in each round. In the opening round Bayliss defeated Morgan Counts of UW-Oshkosh 6-1, 6-3. In the semis she took down Kimmy Mrozek of UW-La Crosse 6-3, 6-3, and in the finals she conquered Haleigh McPeek of Carthage 6-4, 6-1.
Erika Williams (Burnsville, MN/Lakeville South) took the crown in the number three singles draw for UW-W defeating Svenja Schroeder of Illinois Wesleyan in the first round 6-1, 6-2, Clo Thirovin of Grinnell in the semifinals 6-1, 4-6, 12-10, and Kendra Woyahn of UW-La Crosse in the title match 6-2, 6-1.
The tandem of
Abby Day (Hartford/Hartford) and
Jessica Vitale (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) earned the title in the number three doubles draw defeating Maria Bardo and Caitee Margenthaler of Augustana in the first round 6-1, 6-0, Renee Nelson and Paige Kuepers of UW-Eau Claire in the semis 7-6 (9), 6-2, and Nicole Nelson and Josie Linman of Illinois Wesleyan in the championship 6-0, 6-4.
Lauren Aguilar (Gurnee, IL/Carmel Catholic ) and
Kelly Foster (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West ) joined forces in the number two doubles draw and took second. A first round victory over UW-Oshkosh's Hannah Bostwick and Erica Van Riper 6-2, 6-1 coupled with a semifinal victory over Mary Frassetto and Jacqueline Cliby of UW-Eau Claire 6-0, 7-5 earned them a spot in the finals against UW-La Crosse. Andrea Vivian and Carrie Williams were too much for the Warhawks as they went on to win 6-1, 6-2.
Megan Kasten (Verona/Verona) and
Jackie Vitale (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) paired up in the number one doubles draw to take third. A first round straight set victory (6-0, 6-1) over Erin Hendrickson and Abbi Howell of Carthage put them in a semifinal round against the number one seeded team in the draw of Taylor Heltne and Katie Gillman of UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds had to come from behind to win but took down the tandem 6-7 (4), 6-1, 10-6. In the third place match UW-W defeated Lauren Drawbridge and Alissa Goetz of Illinois Wesleyan 6-4, 6-1.

The Warhawk Invite was cancelled in 2011 due to weather but this marks the eighth straight time UW-W has won the event.
UW-W will travel to Lake Forest, Illinois on September 9 for dual matches against Beloit and Lake Forest. The Beloit match is schedule for a noon start and the Lake Forest match is slated to begin at 3 pm.
