Stensvaag Named Academic All-American

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater senior Ingrid Stensvaag (Palatine, IL/Palatine) has earned a spot on the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America College Division At-Large Second Team sponsored by ESPN The Magazine.

The college division includes National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II and Division III schools, as well as National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics members, well over 1,000 schools.  The CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine honor emphasizes academic qualifications while also considering athletic accomplishments, and campus and community service.  The recognition is not automatically conferred when meeting a grade or achievement standard, but is competitive on a national ballot.  CoSIDA and ESPN The Magazine sponsor all-academic teams in football, women's volleyball, women's and men's soccer, women's and men's track and cross country, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, and at-large.  The at-large group covers student athletes participating in any sport from archery to yachting.

Stensvaag, a health and human performance major, carries a 3.98 (out of 4.0) cumulative grade point average.  She has been on the dean's list every semester, the UW-W Academic Achievement Award all four years, an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete, and a member of the Golden Key and Sigma Lambda Alpha honor societies.  She was named UW-W's Female Athlete of the Year for the 2009-2010 school year, and earned a UW-W Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Judy Kruckman Scholar Athlete Award for tennis.  She is involved in the UW-W Student Optimist Club, the UW-W Buddhist Club, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and CHARPE, the physical education majors organization.

Stensvaag went 21-11 at number two singles, and teamed with Annie Smith (Algonquin, IL/H.D. Jacobs) to go 19-9 at flight two doubles for the Warhawks this year.  She helped the team win its third consecutive WIAC title, and third straight berth in the NCAA III tournament, where they advanced to the third round.

Stensvaag repeats, and improves upon, the All-America honor she earned a year ago when she was a CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Third Team Academic All-American.
