Saturday, May 29 Update UW-Whitewater's
Shaun Davis (Edgerton/Edgerton) earned All-America honors with a fourth place finish in the discus Saturday, the final day of the
National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. Davis, who finished second in the discus at the 2009 meet, threw the disc 169-5. Davis finished ninth in the hammer throw on the opening day of the 2010 championship. UW-W teammate
Ben Stringer (Assumption, IL/Central A&M) also competed in the discus, but did not advance to the finals with his best of 161-6. Sean Larson of UW-Stout won the discus with a mark of 174-10. UW-W also had two competitors in the high jump.
Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) placed ninth with a height of 6-8 and
Tom Fisher (Green Bay/East) finished twelfth at 6-6. Buchholz had the same height as the eighth place finisher, but his place was determined by number of misses. Tyler Hannan of Monmouth College took first in the high jump at 6-11.5.
Friday, May 28 Update Jeramie Bogard and
Aron Kehoe (Monroe/Monroe) competed in the 800 meter preliminary in day two of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. Bogard was timed in 1:52.29 and Kehoe in 1:53.23. Bogard's time actually appeared to tie the eighth qualifier for the finals, but the tie was broken by timing to the thousandths of a second and finish line photography. Defending champion Emmanuel Bofa of Whitworth University led the 800 qualifiers with a 1:50.86. Warhawk decathlete
Pat Lockington (Two Rivers/Two Rivers) finished fifteenth in the two day competition with 5, 575 points. Obinna Nwanna of Case Western Reserve University won the decathlon with 7,056 points. Whitewater will be represented in two events Saturday, both with two qualifiers.
Shaun Davis (Edgerton/Edgerton), who competed in the hammer throw Thursday, and
Ben Stringer (Assumption, IL/Central A&M) will compete in the discus, and
Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) and
Tom Fisher (Green Bay/East) will be in the high jump.

The UW-W representatives include
Pat Lockington (Two Rivers/Two Rivers) in the decathlon,
Shaun Davis (Edgerton/Edgerton) in the hammer throw and discus,
Peter Schroeder (Ripon/Ripon) in the 400 hurdles,
Aron Kehoe (Monroe/Monroe) and
Jeremie Bogard (Racine/Horlick) in the 800,
Ben Stringer (Assumption, IL/Central A&M) in the discus,
Tom Fisher (Green Bay/East) and
Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) in the high jump, and the 4x400 relay team.
Davis will be one the favorites in his competition, having placed second in both events at the 2009 NCAA III outdoor meet. Stringer also earned points, and all-America honors, with his fifth place in the discus last year. Last year the discus was won by a familiar rival, Tony Baker of UW-Oshkosh at 165-8. Former Warhawk Dan Hytinen holds the Division III record, set in 2008, of 196-5. Davis will also be looking at the 2009 winning hammer throw of 201-8 by Bryan Kolacz of Keene State College, and the meet record of 215-5 set in 2004 by another Warhawk -- Jeremy Wendt.
Kehoe has a wealth of national level experience, and success. He won the 800 at the national meet in March, and placed sixth outdoors in 2009. He also qualified for the NCAA III cross country championship last fall. Emmanuel Bofa of Whitworth University won the 800 outdoors last year in 1:48.77, and the D3 record is 1:47.56 by Clive Terrelonge of Lincoln in 1991.
Kehoe will be joined by Bogard in the 800, who ran as part of UW-W's distance medley relay in the 2010 NCAA indoor meet. Steve Travis set the Warhawk 800 record of 1:50.68 in 1992.
Buchholz is also making a return appearance. He will be shooting for his third all-America honor, with a fourth place indoors in March and a tie for eighth indoors in 2009 already in hand. Buchholz also has NCAA championship experience as the leading scorer on the Warhawk soccer team. UW-W's Fisher, a freshman, has qualified for his first national meet. John Kimmel of Manchester College won the high jump outdoors last year at 6-11.5, and Rahiem Greenridge of Wheaton (MA) is the NCAA III record holder at 7-2.5 in 2000. The Whitewater school mark of 6-11.75 was set by Dean Bohlman in 1983.
Schroeder will be making his second appearance in the national meet, but his first in an individual event. He ran on Whitewater's 4x400 relay indoors in March, and will double up this week. Stuart Elzy holds the UW-W 400 hurdle record, set in 2000, of 47.37, and Cory Beebe of Salisbury State won it in 51.28 last year. The greatest hurdler in U.S. history, and maybe all of track and field, Edwin Moses, set the Division III record of 49.59 in 1977.
Schroeder will be joined by
Brian Martinezdelacotera (Franklin/Franklin),
Tim Prelletz (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge), and
Mike Rossbach (Dousman/Mukwonago) in the 4x400 relay. The first three were members of the Whitewater unit that qualified for the 2010 national indoor meet. The University of Saint Thomas won this event last year in 3:10.60, and UW-La Crosse (including future Olympian Andrew Rock) holds the meet record of 3:08.21 in 2004. The UW-Whitewater record of 3:13.35 was set in 2006.
Unofficially, Lockington will be competing in more events than all of his teammates combined, with the decathlon on hand. Adam Lendowski set the school record in what is considered the ultimate track and field event at 6.621 in 2006. Josh Lovell of Linfield College totaled 7,080 to win last year, and Kip Janvrin of Simpson College set the D3 record of 7,528 in 1987, Lockington won the decathlon at the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship.
