Ingrid Stensvaag (Palatine, IL/Palatine) were all named this week's UW-W women's tennis players of the week.
Michelle Daciolas (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) was also named the WIAC tennis player of the week.
Daciolas, a senior from Roselle, IL earned her singles player of the week honor by going 3-1 this week at the ITA singles tournament held in St. Peter, MN at Gustavus Adolphus College. She ended up making the quarterfinal round, which is good for placing in the top eight players in the tournament. Before losing 6-1, 6-0 to Ali Oneal of Gustavas, Daciolas beat Gina Klein, the fifth ranked seed in the tournament, 6-4, 6-7 (10-5), as well as Jenny Maruyama 6-4, 6-0, and also beat Frances Leung 6-4, 6-2. These results also earned Daciolas the WIAC tennis player of the week.
Stensvaag, a senior from Palatine, IL and Smith, a sophmore from Algonquin, IL combined to earn their doubles players of the week honors by going 4-1, thus winning the consolation A bracket at the ITA doubles tournament this week . Although the duo lost their first match to Allen/Barau of Gustavus 9-7, they won their next four matches to win consolation. Their first win was over Huether/Rudnitski of St. Benedict, then winning over McDonald/Maruyama of UW-La Crosse, their third win came over Ackland/Burroughs of St. Catherine's, and finally the duo defeated Erickson/Bryan of Gustavus 8-3 in the consolation match.
The Warhawks' next match will be this Wednesday, September 30 at 3:30 pm here at the Wangerin Tennis Courts against UW-Oshkosh. The Warhawks also host Wisconsin Lutheran College later that night at 6:30 pm, also at the Wangerin Tennis Courts.
