Six Warhawks Earn All-WIAC Volleyball Honors

The 2009 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Atletic Conference Volleyball Team was released this morning. UW-Whitewater had six players earning all-conference honors.

The first team was headlined by junior outside hitter, Caitlin Hogan, sophomore outside hitter, Keri Klotzbuecher, and senior middle blocker Melissa Zuleger. Senior setter, Alyse Karls also earned Honorable Mention Honors. Sophomore libero, Alyssa Bauer, was named to the All-Defensive Team and senior libero, Annie Berkley was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team as well.

Both Hogan and Klotzbuecher were named to the First Team All-WIAC Team last year in 2008. Hogan led the Warhawks, while also placing third in the WIAC in kills this year with 359. Klotzbuecher finished second on the Warhawks behind Hogan and eleventh overall in the WIAC in kills with 319. Zuleger led the Warhawks and tied for fourth in the WIAC in solo blocks with nineteen, as well as placing third on the Warhawks and sixth in the conference in total blocks with 103.

Karls, who was named to the Honorable Mention Team, led the Warhawks and finished second in conference in assists with 1302. She also finished with 320 digs which was third on the Warhawks.

Bauer, who received All-Defensive honors, led the Warhaws and finished second in the WIAC with 683 digs. Alyssa also received All-Defensive honors last year in 2008.

Berkley, named to the All-Sportsmanship Team, ranked sixth among Warhawks in digs with 183.

The 'Hawks have made it to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament this year and will play their first round matchup Thursday, November 12 at 12:30 in Oshkosh at the Kolf Sports Center against the University of St. Thomas.
