Gymnastics Moves to 3-0 With Home Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team tallied a strong score in the floor exercise for the second consecutive meet in a 188.500-176.850 victory over Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet at Russell Arena.
 
The Warhawks (3-0 overall, 3-0 WIAC) started the meet with a strong performance on vault, posting a total of 47.700. Sophomore Lauren Marshall (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) paced the team with a 9.700 to top the field, and senior Chloe Rehberg (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) finished second with a 9.650. Senior Lewa Evans (Milwaukee, WI/Whitefish Bay) placed third with a 9.625, junior Lisa O'Donnell (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) was fourth with a 9.425 and junior Erika Briscoe (Solon, Iowa/Solon) rounded out UW-Whitewater scoring with a 9.300, good for sixth place.
 
O'Donnell registered the high score on the uneven parallel bars with a 9.525 to lead the team to a 46.675. Seniors Kate Mierow (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) and Christina Slack (Albrightsville, PA/Jim Thorpe) tied for second with matching scores of 9.475, and junior Sarah Rhodes (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) collected a 9.275 to place fourth. Junior Bailey Fitzpatrick (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) finished sixth with an 8.925.
 
Junior Franchesca Hutton (Shakopee, Minn./Main Street School of Performing Arts) won the balance beam with a 9.575 and was followed by Mierow, who totaled a 9.400, and Evans, who finished with a 9.300. Briscoe placed fifth with a 9.025, and freshman Blaise Wilson (Thornton, Colo./Legacy) was seventh with an 8.825. The team finished with a 46.125.
 
The Warhawks' team score of 48.000 on floor exercise tied for the No. 19 score in program history and is the team's second straight top 20 performance. O'Donnell claimed first place with a 9.725. Sophomore Acacia Fossum (Gladstone, N.D./Richardton-Taylor) finished second with a 9.625, and Hutton was third with a 9.575. Briscoe scored a 9.550 to finish fourth, and junior Abby Helmke (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) earned a 9.525.
 
UW-Whitewater resumes action Friday for a tri-meet against Hamline (Minn.) and Winona State in Winona, Minn. Meet time is set for 6 p.m.
