WBCA NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's basketball teams each moved up six spots in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 national polls.
Men
After a 4-0 start, including a victory over then-No. 15 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) to open the season, the Warhawk men earned the No. 5 spot in the latest Men's Top 25. UW-Whitewater earned 514 points in the poll to climb from No. 11 in the preseason rankings.
The Warhawks finished off a 2-0 week on Saturday with a 79-70 victory over Anderson (Ind.). Junior guard
Andre Brown (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) collected a team-high 17 points to lead the team, which held a 16-8 advantage in offensive rebounding and knocked down nine 3-pointers while committing only nine turnovers.
Earlier in the week, UW-Whitewater handed Monmouth (Ill.) its first loss of the year with a 66-50 triumph at Kachel Gymnasium. Brown and junior guard
Dalton Menke (Rockford, Ill./Winnebago) led the way with 13 points apiece.
After a four-game home stand to open the season, the Warhawks travel this weekend to Redlands, Calif., for the Lee Fulmer Memorial Classic. UW-Whitewater is set to face Caltech Friday at 7 p.m. Central Time before taking on Redlands Saturday at 9 p.m.
Women
The Warhawk women have also opened the 2017-18 campaign with four straight wins to move up to No. 14 in the latest Women's Top 25. The team posted a 62-60 victory on Nov. 21 over then-No. 25 Illinois Wesleyan, which is receiving votes in the latest poll.
The Warhawks are also ranked No. 22 in the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, up three spots from their debut ranking of No. 25 last week.
Last night, UW-Whitewater tallied a 21-5 run to end the third quarter en route to an 86-67 triumph over Concordia Wisconsin, the two-time defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champion, at Kachel Gymnasium. The Warhawks shot 59.7 percent from the floor, the team's highest total since making 60 percent in a win over UW-Superior on Feb. 20, 2010.
Senior guard
Malia Smith (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and sophomore guard
Camri Conley (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) posted 16 points apiece, and senior guard
Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
UW-Whitewater faces its third opponent from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin this Thursday as it hosts Augustana (Ill.) at 7 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium.
