The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team is ranked No. 20 in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25.
The Warhawks finished 22-6 last season after capturing the program's first-ever Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship and reaching the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship. The team made its ninth appearance in the national tournament in the last 10 years.
UW-Whitewater is scheduled to return all five starters from last season's team, including first team All-WIAC guards
Malia Smith (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and
Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater/Whitewater). Smith led the conference in steals and was also an All-Defensive Team selection, and Trewyn was tabbed third team All-Central Region by D3hoops.com after leading the league in scoring.
Head coach
Keri Carollo enters her 16th season in her current position at UW-Whitewater. She has led the program to three appearances in the Final Four, including a national runner-up finish in 2013.
The Warhawks, who took on Division I UW-Green Bay in an exhibition game last week, open the 2017-18 season Nov. 15 at Elmhurst.
