The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team posted its third straight dual meet win in its 2017 home opening meet Saturday, downing UW-Eau Claire 189.300-186.475 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
The Warhawks' team score ranks 20th in the program record book, and UW-Whitewater added top 20 team scores on the vault (47.775, T-14th) and on the parallel uneven bars (47.925, 7th).
The Warhawks (3-0 overall, 3-0 WIAC) swept all four events, and sophomore
Lisa O'Donnell (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) took the all-around title with a 37.725.
Senior
Katie Fiorilli (Solon, OH/Solon) won the vault with a score of 9.650, and was followed closely by junior
Lewa Evans (Milwaukee, WI/Whitefish Bay) and senior
Courtney Pickett (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood), who each tallied a 9.575 to tie for second. Junior
Chloe Rehberg (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) tied for fourth with a 9.525 and junior
Christina Slack (Albrightsville, PA/Jim Thorpe) tied for eighth with a 9.450.
UW-Whitewater excelled on the bars, securing six of the top seven scores in the meet. Senior
Mackenzie Smith (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther) paced the Warhawks with a 9.725, which tied for the No. 14 score in program history. O'Donnell finished second with a 9.675, and was followed by junior
Kate Mierow (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) with a 9.600. Junior
McKenzie Foster (Manitou Beach, MI/Addison) and Fiorilli rounded out UW-Whitewater scoring with scores of 9.500 and 9.425, respectively.
O'Donnell claimed first place on the balance beam with a 9.675. Pickett finished third with a 9.625, and sophomore
Franchesca Hutton (Shakopee, Minn./Main Street School of Performing Arts) was fourth with a 9.575. Freshman
Lauren Marshall (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) placed sixth with a 9.300, and Fiorill was ninth with an 8.925.
Pickett led the Warhawks in the floor exercise with a 9.650, and Evans tied for third with a 9.500. Freshman
Acacia Fossum (Gladstone, N.D./Richardton-Taylor) was fifth with a 9.375, and O'Donnell (9.050) and Fiorilli (8.925) finished ninth and 10th, respectively.
UW-Whitewater heads to Chapel Hill, N.C., next week for a Division I quad meet at the University of North Carolina on Friday at 6 p.m. Central Time. Towson and William & Mary are also scheduled to participate.
