Eight From Football Named to NFF Honor Society

Eight members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team were selected to the 2016 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society by the NFF and College Football Hall of Fame.
 
Seniors Kyle Christensen (Madison/La Follette), Nick Froland (Green Bay/Notre Dame Academy), Dylan Morang (Saint John, IN/Lake Central), Nick Patterson (Sussex/Hamilton), Shawn Shillcox (Two Rivers/Two Rivers), Eli Sloneker (Danvers, IL/University HS), Ryan Winske (Omro/Omro) and Joe Worth (Hartford/Hartford Union) were inducted into the honor society.
 
A record 868 student-athletes from 275 different NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III and NAIA institutions earned selection to the team. Student-athletes must have been a starter or significant contributor in their last year of eligibility and must have maintained a 3.2 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
 
All eight of the Warhawks' honorees helped the team reach the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Playoffs for the 10th time in the last 11 years. UW-Whitewater finished with a 12-2 record, including a 6-1 mark in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
 
Christensen, Patterson, Sloneker and Worth were all key members of the offense, which ranked second in the conference in scoring with 38.1 points per contest.
 
Christensen appeared in 13 games as a full back/tight end, while Patterson rushed 53 times for 242 yards and four touchdowns out of the backfield.
 
Sloneker played in 12 games as an integral member of the offensive line, while Worth garnered honorable mention All-WIAC accolades and finished the season ranked second on the team in receptions (49), receiving yards (629) and receiving touchdowns (4).
 
Morang, Shillcox and Winske were all starters in the defensive backfield.
 
Winske was tabbed first team All-America by D3football.com after totaling 79 tackles, good for third on the team, and tying for the team lead with five interceptions, including two returned fro touchdowns.
 
Morang totaled 48 tackles, including a team high tying 41 solo stops, picked off two passes and blocked a kick. Shillcox registered 58 tackles, including 5.0 for a loss, and added three interceptions.
 
Froland, a defensive lineman, contributed 28 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, and forced a fumble.
