Jo Jablonski (Palatine, IL/Palatine) has been tabbed the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership. The Woman of the Year selection committee will pick the top 10 honorees in each NCAA division in early September. From the 30 student-athletes, the committee will choose nine finalists (three from each division) in late September.
The top 30 honorees will be recognized and the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced at the annual ceremony in Indianapolis, Ind., on Oct. 18.
Jablonski, who graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's in elementary education in May, was a four-year standout for the Warhawks, helping the team claim two WIAC regular season championships and three conference tournament titles, and reach the NCAA Division III Tournament in each of the last three seasons. UW-Whitewater placed third in the nation in 2014, the program's highest finish since 2008.
A first team All-WIAC pick for the second straight season in 2015, Jablonski ranked among league leaders in batting average (.422), hits (57), runs scored (35), home runs (10), total bases (100), runs batted in (39), walks (25), on-base percentage (.515) and slugging percentage (.741). She garnered second team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region accolades, her second time on the all-region team.
Jablonski finished her career ranked among the program's top 10 in home runs (22) and walks (56).
Off the diamond, Jablonski was named WIAC Softball Judy Kruckman Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year and a Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete. In June, she was selected second team Capital One Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Jablonski was also an active member in the community. A four-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Jablonski served as president of the organization in 2014-15. She was also involved on campus as a First Year Experience peer mentor and academic tutor.
The school's 2014-15 Miss Warhawk and Female Student-Athlete of the Year award winner, Jablonski was also active in Reading With The Warhawks and in the Warhawk Leadership Academy's Veteran Warhawks pilot group. She was a member of the Athletic Director Search and Screen Committee in 2013-14 and volunteered at numerous local events, including Whitewater's Fourth of July Parade, W3 Wellness Day and Make A Difference Day.
Jablonski is one of 51 conference honorees in Division III. A record 147 NCAA female student-athletes are 2015 Woman of the Year selections by conferences and independent schools.
