For the fifth straight year, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater finished among the nation's top 10 in the National Association of College Directors of Athletics' Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Division III standings, ranking sixth out of 450 institutions.

The Warhawks totaled 877.75 points to post the highest finish of any Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference school for the fifth straight year and place among the nation's top 15 for the eighth consecutive season.

Five UW-Whitewater teams recorded top 10 national finishes, highlighted by the football team's NCAA Division III national championship. Men's outdoor track and field (3rd), wrestling (4th), women's indoor track and field (6th) and men's indoor track and field (T-9th) were the others.

The Warhawks' bowling and gymnastics teams also tallied top five national finishes, but their results were not counted toward the point total. Bowling placed third at the NCAA Championships (all divisions), and gymnastics tied for second at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Division III Championships.

A total of 17 of the institution's 20 varsity sports programs were represented at national championship events.

The Directors' Cup measures the overall athletic success of collegiate institutions. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports – nine women's and nine men's. Williams (Mass.) won the Cup for the 18th time in the last 20 years, and was followed, in order, by Johns Hopkins (Md.), MIT, Washington-St. Louis and Amherst (Mass.) in the top five.

UW-Whitewater racked up 323.50 points during the spring season, highlighted by the outdoor men's track and field team's third-place national finish (85 points). Baseball (50), softball (25), women's tennis (64), men's tennis (50) and women's outdoor track and field (49.5) also contributed with NCAA Tournament appearances and placements.

The Warhawks were bolstered by a trio of top 10 national finishes during the winter season, registering 354.25 points in that span. UW-Whitewater placed fourth at the NCAA Wrestling Championship (80 points), sixth at the women's indoor track and field national meet (73.5) and tied for ninth at the men's indoor track and field championships (68.25). The women's swimming and diving team placed 21st (52.5) at the NCAA Championships in March, while the men's basketball team made its fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament (25).

In the fall, UW-Whitewater earned 100 points for its football national title, 50 for the men's soccer team's NCAA Tournament second round berth and 25 points each from the women's soccer and volleyball teams, which each qualified for the first round of the NCAAs.

Three other WIAC schools finished among the top 30 in the nation, including No. 10 UW-La Crosse, No. 18 UW-Eau Claire and No. 26 UW-Stevens Point.

In 2013-14, the Warhawks finished second in the Directors' Cup, the school's all-time best finish.
