Warhawks Win, Will Face Augustana in Second Round

Box Score WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Warhawk men's basketball team rolled to a 79-55 win over Northwestern-St. Paul Friday evening in Kachel Gym. The win propels UW-Whitewater into the second round for a game against Augustana Saturday at 7:00. Augustana topped St. Thomas in the first game of the night, 88-77, to punch their ticket to the next round. The Eagles led just once in the game, 8-6, at the 14:26 mark when UW-W took over. The Warhawks used a 13-4 run that lasted almost six minutes to take a nine point advantage, 29-20, with 4:31 remaining in the half. UW-W finished the half on a 10-4 run to extend the gap to 15, 39-24, at intermission. 

Whitewater scored 17 points off turnovers compared to Northwestern's 4. UW-W enjoyed a 21-13 advantage on the boards and shot 48.4% from the floor compared to the Eagles' 40%. 

KJ Evans (Beloit/Beloit Memorial) led all players with 10 points and seven rebounds in the first twenty minutes. 

The Warhawks quickly pushed the margin to 20, taking a 50-30 lead with 15:51 left in the game. Whitewater's largest lead of the game came at the 2:07 mark after a Drew Bryson (Elkhorn/Elkhorn) three-pointer made the score 79-50. 

In the second half, UW-W posted a 20-4 advantage on points in the paint. The Warhawks improved their efficiency from the floor making 15-27 (55.6%) in the second half. Northwestern was 9-25 (36%) from the floor. 

For the game, Whitewater shot 51.7% (30-58) and enjoyed a 39-23 advantage on the glass. The Eagles shot 38% (19-50) in the game.

Two Warhawks recorded double-double performances led by Hearn's 16 points and 11 rebounds. Evans added 11 points and 10 boards. Quardell Young (Kenosha/Bradford) chipped in 14 points on 7-12 from the floor and added seven assists and three steals. Steven Willey led Nothwestern with 13 points and four assists.

UW-W is making their 19th appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament and seven under head coach Pat Miller
