Gymnasts Break Bars Record in Win

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-Whitewater gymnastics team topped UW-Stout 187.075-179.600 Saturday afternoon in Whitewater. The win was highlighted by a school record performance on the uneven bars where Courtney Pickett (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood), Amanda Quinn (Carol Stream, IL/Glenbard North), Allyse Dieringer (Germantown, WI/Germantown), Cici Talcott (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood) and Megan Love (Henrico, VA/Godwin) combined for a total of 48.025.

UW-W swept the top five spots in the bars competition. Pickett and Quinn shared top honors with routines scoring 9.65, the best by a Warhawk this season. Dieringer posted a 9.625 followed by Talcott's 9.575 and Love's 9.525. The record bars score provided nearly a four-point advantage for Whitewater after two rotations.

The momentum carried over into the next two events for Whitewater. The Warhawks put together their best scores this season on the final two events of the evening, the balance beam and floor exercise. UW-W went 1-2-3 on the beam with Dieringer leading the pack with a 9.55. Katie Fiorilli (Solon, OH/Solon) and Kristen Shackleton (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way Central) shared second place honors with 9.375.

A Blue Devil won the top spot on the floor but the Warhawks swept second-sixth. Talcott's routine scored 9.45 for second followed by Love's 9.375 in third. Fiorilli, Dieringer and Alex Wente (Howard Lake, MN/Dassel-Cokato ) rounded out the top finishers for Whitewater in the event. 

Fiorilli put the finishing touches on the Warhawk win with top honors in the all-around competition with a total of 37.200.

UW-W will head to Cape Girardeau, Mo. for the next competition scheduled for January 31 beginning at 6:30 pm against Southeast Missouri and Lindenwood.
