In the match against Chicago,
Ben Shklyar (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) and
Mitch Osborne (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) paired up to defeat Deepak Sabada and Krishna Ravella 8-6 at one doubles, and
Byron Balkin (Madison/Memorial) and
Andrew Bayliss (Sheboygan/North) topped Neil Karandikar and Ankur Bhargava 8-3 at two doubles to give UW-W a 2-1 lead coming out of doubles play.
The Warhawks won the matches at three through six singles to go on to win the match. Bayliss won a three set thriller over Gordon Zhang in the closest match of the day.
It was a bit smoother sailing against Carroll as only one match,
Byron Balkin (Madison/Memorial) at one singles, went to a tiebreaker. In fact, besides one singles, the Warhawks lost just 8 games in singles play.
Doubles was slightly closer, but the Pioneers never posed a real threat at any flight.
The Warhawks will travel to Decorah, Iowa on Sunday to play Luther College in a match beginning at 2 pm. UW-W's next home matches are on April 14 when they host Lake Forest College and the University of Dubuque in matches beginning at 9:30 am and 3:30 pm, respectively.
