Whitewater v. Willamette is W ... for Warhawks

The UW-Whitewater men's tennis team, ranked twenty-ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III poll, defeated Willamette University 8-1 Tuesday in Claremont, California.

UW-Whitewater's top singles player, sophomore Ben Shklyar (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield), unexpectedly had to skip singles play.  Coach Frank Barnes moved everyone up in the lineup and inserted Brian Klein (Brookfield/East) into the sixth slot.  UW-W won five of the six singles matches.

UW-W is 7-9 this season, and Willamette University is 5-8 in dual matches.

UW-W had a match against #22 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges later Tuesday (no report as of midnight Central).  The Warhawks will play fourteenth ranked Middlebury College Thursday in the wrap-up of the California trip.  Whitewater will return home to host the University of Chicago, ranked thirtieth by the ITA, and Carroll University April 6.  The Chicago match is set for 10:00 and the Carroll match for 4:00.  Weather permitting, the matches will be played on the Wangerin Courts south of Williams Center on campus.  If there is change in the matches it will be posted on the UW-W men's tennis schedule page.
