Wrestlers Top Eau Claire, Unbeaten in WIAC

UW-Whitewater, ranked thirteenth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll, upped its record to 4-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference duals with a 44-0 win over UW-Eau Claire Friday night in Kachel Gym of Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin.  The shutout is first for UW-W since the Warhawks topped UW-Platteville 39-0 February 11, 2010.

In the first match of the night, the first to actually wrestle, Whitewater's Matt Adcock (Bloomingdale, IL/Lake Park) went ahead on a takedown in the first period and led 4-1 after one.  Behnke picked up a point with an escape in the second, and the duo traded points in the third to give Adcock a 5-3 decision and Whitewater a 15-0 lead.

Garrett Whitehead upped the Whitewater lead to 19-0 with a 14-6 major decision over Steve Fisher at 149 pounds.  Whitewater led 4-2 after the first period and extended it to 7-3 after five minutes.  In the third period Whitewater scored three takedowns, and Fisher got a point each time for escaping.

Cedric Gibson (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield North) added four more team points for Whitewater with another major decision, 17-4, over Eau Claire's Brandon Stradel at 157 pounds.  Gibson outscored Stradel 8-1 in the second period, including a pair of two point nearfalls.  All four of Stradel's points came on escapes.

At 165 pounds Warhawk Willie Anaya (Downers Grove, IL/Downers Grove) scored on three takedowns and a three point nearfall in the first period to lead 9-2, then continued adding on and closing out the match with a pair of three point nearfalls in the second period to record an 18-2 technical fall at 4:04 and increase Whitewater's lead to 28-0.

Ryan Aprahamian (Mukwonago/Mukwonago) pushed the lead to 34-0 with a pin in 4:15 over Alex Kleinschmidt at 174.  Aprahamian led 5-2 at the time of the pin.

Roland Dunlap (Muskego/Muskego ) made his first appearance of the season at 184 for Whitewater, defeating Jacob Hoffstatter 20-6.  Dunlap led 11-3 after the first period and 15-4 after two.  Dunlap recorded eight takedowns in the match, and all of Hoffstatter's points came on escapes and Whitewater's lead climbed to 38-0.

Shane Siefert (Mundelein, IL/Carmel) completed the shutout with a pin in 6:23 of Eau Claire's Luke Ortscheid. Siefert's 6-1 lead after one period included two, two point nearfalls, and that score held through a scoreless second period.  Siefert led 11-2 at the time of the pin.

UW-Whitewater will host the annual Border Brawls Saturday beginning at 11:00 in Williams Center.
