Herum, Fon, Friend Earn All-Region, Twice

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater first baseman Marty Herum (River Falls/River Falls), outfielder Dylan Friend (Burlington/Burlington), and third baseman Jared Fon (Germantown/Germantown) have earned D3baseball.com All-Midwest Region and American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region (provided by St. John's University) honors.  Herum and Friend were second team picks, Fon was selected to the third team from D3baseball.com and all three players earned first team recognition from the NABC. Friend added Midwest Region Gold Glove Team honors from the NABC.

Herum and Fon were among the three players named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Position Players of the Year.  Friend joined his two teammates in earning first team all-conference honors.

Herum, a freshman, added D3 Midwest Region Rookie of the Year honors.  He led UW-W with a .400 batting average, 82 hits, 18 doubles, 58 runs batted and five sacrifice flies.  He had five home runs and a .590 slugging percentage, which was second for UW-W.

Fon, a sophomore, led the Warhawks with eight home runs and a .602 slugging percentage.  He batted .383 with 16 doubles, 44 RBI's, and 16 walks -- all second best for UW-Whitewater.  Fon was 5-6 on stolen base attempts.

Friend, also a sophomore, led UW-Whitewater with 53 runs scored, seven triples, and 18 walks.  He batted .328 with 43 runs batted in, four home runs, and a .544 slugging percentage.  He was also 5-7 in stolen bases, and compiled a .986 fielding percentage in center field committing just two errors in 145 chances.

UW-W was 33-17 in 2012.  The Warhawks finished second in the WIAC during the regular season and second in the league's postseason tournament.  Whitewater earned a berth in the NCAA III championship tournament, finishing second in the midwest regional, one game away from advancing to the Division III World Series.
