The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track team is ranked sixth in the
United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll. Rankings in this poll are based on national championship potential. In the
dual meet rankings, the Warhawk men are ranked third. The women's team is ranked tenth in the national meet poll and eleventh in the dual meet poll.
The men's team has fifteen athletes ranked in ten events, including the 4x400 relay and the distance medley relay.
Marcus Smith (West Allis/Central) is mentioned in three events, topped by his third in the triple jump with 15.03 meters (49-5 3/4).
Dave Kuczynski (Brown Deer/Brown Deer) ranks second in the long jump with 7.34 meters (24-1), and
Nick Bee (Elgin, IL/Larkin) is sixth in the 60 meters at 6.87.
The Warhawk women have five ranked athletes represented in five events.
Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) leads the Warhawks in the high jump and 60 meter hurdles, ranking first and seventeenth respectively. Her high jump is the UW-W record at 1.80 meters (5-10 3/4) and her hurdles time is 8.99.
JoLyn Owen (Middleton/Middleton) is ranked in two events; the pentathlon where she ranks second with a score of 3,353 and the high jump where she is ranked fourteenth. Lauren Sondgeroth is also ranked in the high jump, seventh (1.68 meters / 5-6).
The Warhawk men will host the "Squig" Converse Invite Friday at 5:00 in the Kachel Fieldhouse of the Williams Center. Some members of the women's team will travel to Stevens Point Friday for the Pointer "Multi Event" and while the rest of the team will host the Warhawk Classic Saturday at noon.
