The University of Wisconsin - Whitewater men's track and field team is ranked fifth in the
United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll that ranks based on national championship potential, and second
in the poll that predicts dual meet results.
The women's team is ranked tenth in the
national meet rankings and eighth in the
dual meet poll.
Event-by-Event Rankings
The Warhawks have sixteen men ranked in ten events, including the 4x400 relay and the distance medley relay.
Matt Santas (Beloit/Turner) is mentioned in three events, including third in the 400 with a time of 49.60. Other leaders on the Warhawk team include
Marcus Smith (West Allis/Central), also ranked in three events including second in the triple jump with 14.67 meters; and
Mathias Werve (Kenosha/Tremper), is ranked in two events including third in the mile (4:20.54).
Moriarty Brown-Griffin (Racine/Park) is tied for the top spot in Division III in the 60 with a time of 6.94 and
Dave Kuczynski (Brown Deer/Brown Deer) is number one in the long jump at 7.34 meters.
Eleven Warhawk women earned individual rankings in five events, including the 4x400 relay and the distance medley relay. Whitewater is led by
Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker), listed as the top high jumper in the nation, with a record-breaking height of 1.80 meters (5-10 3/4). Demos also is third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.28 and
Lauren Strohmaier (Genoa, IL/Kingston) is ranked second in the high jump with 1.68 meters (5-6).
Whitewater will travel to Naperville, Illinois for the North Central College Triangular Saturday, January 28.
