Men Lap the Field in Rocky Rococo Invite

Winning twelve of eighteen events, the UW-Whitewater men's track and field team captured the title of the Rocky Rococo Invitational at the Converse Track in Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater Saturday.

Team scores were:  UW-Whitewater 234, Milwaukee School of Engineering 71, University of Dubuque 70.5, Aurora University 69, Greater Milwaukee Track Club 54, Ripon College 47, Clarke University 42, Edgewood College 31, Concordia University 18.5, Judson University 16, Beloit College 14, Oakton Community College 13, and Wisconsin Lutheran College 12.

The fact that no Warhawk athlete won more than one event speaks to the depth of this year's squad.  The list of Whitewater first place finishes includes:  Dawson Miller (Whitewater/Whitewater), mile, 4:30.28; Mathias Werve (Kenosha/Tremper), 800, 1:59.44; Nick Bee (Elgin, IL/Larkin), 200, 22.55, Jordan Miller (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah), weight throw, 53-8.5; and the 4x400 relay, 3:24.78.  That relay consisted of Matt Santas (Beloit/Turner), Brian Martinezdelacotera (Franklin/Franklin), Tim Prelletz (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge), and Pete Schroeder.  Also Dave Kuczynski (Brown Deer/Brown Deer) in the long jump, 23-7.25; Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) in the high jump, 6-4.75; Cody Speaker (Janesville/Parker) in the pole vault, 15-1.5; Kevin Buntman (Green Bay/Bay Port), 5000, 15:38.88; Mike Judd (Chicago, IL/St. Laurence), 60 hurdles, 8.43; Ben Watson (Waukesha/North), shot put, 48-9.5; and the distance medley relay in 10:34.14. They also placed second in the 4x200 meter relay with a final time of 1:34.88.

Bee's day included a second place finish in the 60 (7.01), and Miller added a second in the shot put (47-4.5).  Marcus Smith (West Allis/Central) finished second in the 60 hurdles, behind Judd, at 8.47, and third in the long jump (22-3.75).

Other top performances included:  Dave Johnson (Waukesha/North), fifth in the weight throw, 47-5.25; Luke Wenham (Little Chute/Little Chute), fourth in the long jump, 21-0; Tom Fischer and Travis Morehouse (Cottage Grove/Monona Grove), second in the high jump, 6-2.75; and Beau Hering (Lake Mills/Lake Mills), tied for fourth in the high jump, 6-0.75.  Also Eric Sawyers (Stoughton/Stoughton), sixth in the pole vault, 12-8.; Matthew Rudquist (Hudson/Hudson), third in the 5000, 15:38.88; Carey Passer (Milton/Milton), fifth in the 60 hurdles, 9.11; and Matt Santas (Beloit/Turner), fourth in the 60 in 7.04 with Moriarty Brown-Griffin (Racine/Park) fifth at 7.07.  And Tim Prelletz (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge), third in the 400, 51.48; with teammates Pete Schroeder fourth in 51.67, and Brian Martinezdelacotera (Franklin/Franklin) sixth in 51.70,  And Anthony Urbanski (Spring Valley, IL/Hall) fourth in the 800 in 2:00.16 and Josh Martin (Pewaukee/Pewaukee) fifth in 2:01.88.  The 4x200 relay took second in 1:34.88.

UW-W will compete in a triangular meet hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Illinois January 28, and return home to host the Squig Converse Invitational February 3 in Kachel Fieldhouse.
