Putnam started the game with a lead-off double and scored off of an RBI single from senior catcher Rob Coe (Appleton/North)

The Bears' only lead came in the second inning. Senior Travis May started the inning for the Bears with a walk followed by a single from senior Matt Bayer. Sophomore David Madson doubled to left center to score May. Sophomore Greg Gleicher followed up Madson's at bat to score Bayer with an RBI groundout to second. The Bears led 2-1 after two complete.

Sophomore second baseman Matt Meisenheimer (West Bend/West) led off the third for the Warhawks with a single to left followed by a single to right by Putnam. Junior outfielder Matt Beyer (Janesville/Parker) walked to load the bases. Both Meisenheimer and Putnam scored off two wild pitches giving the Whitewater a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third.

WashU managed another run in the third inning. Junior Joe Noon singled and then advanced to second on a Warhawk error.  Noon scored on an RBI single from Bayer, knotting the game at 3-3.

UW-W's senior third baseman Lee Kimbell (Clinton, KY/Hickman County) started the fourth inning with a walk followed by a single to right from Putnam. Putnam was then able to steal second with Kimbell at third. With runners in scoring position, Beyer walked loading the bases followed by Coe getting hit by a pitch to score Kimbell.

Whitewater added to their lead with a Meisenheimer three run homerun in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 7-3. The Bears went scoreless in the fifth and the Warhawks tacked on two more in the sixth off a pinch hit two RBI single from senior Brent Young (Brisbane, Austrailia/Mt. Maria).

UW-W entered the seventh inning with a 9-6 lead that ballooned to 15-6 after a six run seventh inning. The Warhawks had RBI hits from Coe, junior infielder Travis Wessels (Tomah/Tomah), sophomore infielder David Cladis (Joliet, IL/Joliet Catholic), and Meisenheimer. Beyer scored off Washington University's first error of the game.

Freshman Nathan Boltz (Delaven/Darien) scored the Whitewater's final run of the game pinch running for Jeff Donovan (Wauwatosa/East) after Donovan doubled to right. Boltz was able to score off the Bears' second error of the game. WashU scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning taking advantage of two Warhawk errors. However, the six-run seventh inning proved too much for the Bears and the team ended up suffering their fourth loss of the season. Both teams went scoreless in the ninth.

Putnam accounted for five of the 17 Warhawk hits. Meisenheimer contributed a solid day at the plate going 3x4 with three runs and four RBI's. Coe also had four RBI's off two hits. Putnam is now 9x10 over the past two games bringing his batting average to a .900.
