Ricardo Gonzales got UW-EC off to a 4-0 start with an 8-0 win over Adam Zeh (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East).  After a scoreless first period, Gonzales earned two near falls in the second to key his major decision.  Whitewater's Reid Dickerson (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) evened the score with a major decision at 174, 18-7, over Keith Dawson.  Dickerson traded four takedowns for four escapes in the first period and did it twice more in the second, and made it a total of eight takedowns with two more in the third.  Whitewater took the lead on Andrew Pettit (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates)'s 8-2 decision over William Christ at 184.  The match was tied 2-2 after the first period and neither wrestler scored in the second, but Pettit scored the winning points on a reversal early in the third.  At 197 UW-W's Adam Latella (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) doubled EC's Luke Ortscheid 6-3 after one and 8-4 after two, and added enough points to make it 14-5 and get the major decision to put Whitewater up 11-4.  Latella raised his season record to a team best 21-3 with the win.  Warhawk 285-pounder James Zarate (Waukesha/North) pinned the Blugolds' Joe Pitsch in 1:21 of their match to extend Whitewater's lead to 17-4.  Zarate recorded his eighth pin, and his seventh consecutive victory.

After a brief intermission the match resumed with the 125 pound weight class.   Whitewater's Brandon Shuart (Davison, MI/Davison, MI) earned two near falls in the first period and at 5:57 ended the match with another near fall and a 17-2 technical fall.  Whitewater's lead increased to 22-4.  Jake Fredrickson remained unbeaten for UW-W, now 10-0, with a 16-1 technical fall over Steve Fisher.  The fifteen point margin for the tech fall came on one point for riding time to make it 27-4 Whitewater.  Brian Lewis (Verona/Verona), who led 5-0 after the first period and 7-0 after the second, added another major decision for UW-W at 133, topping Brian Reier 12-2.  Keegan Arthur pinned EC's Joshua Baier in 1:02 at 149 pounds to up the Whitewater lead to 37-4.   Cade Sarbacker (Mineral Point/Iowa-Grant) started slowly at 157, leading just 2-0 after two periods, but a six point third period and riding time gave him a 9-0 major decision and finalized the team match score at 41-4.

The win improved Whitewater's dual meet record to 10-10-1 overall and 1-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The Warhawks are 7-1-1 in their last nine matches.  UW-Eau Claire is 3-9 in dual meets, 1-2 in the WIAC.

UW-Whitewater will host the Border Brawl Saturday in Williams Center, with six teams competing in matches that begin at 12:00.   Teams competing include Elmhurst College, Harper Community College, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, College of Mount Saint Joseph and the host Warhawks.  Matches will continue all afternoon, with at least two taking place at a time.
