Dieringer Stands Out in Win Over Hamline

The 2011 Warhawk gymnastics team made its mark in the UW-W record book Saturday afternoon in a 185.275-177-850 win over Hamline University in Whitewater.

The Warhawks started on the vault, where a team score of 46.975 took over the tenth spot in the UW-W record book. Whitewater took two of the top three spots in the event with senior Allison Nelson (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) and sophomore Siri Wischmann (Delano, MN/Delano) sharing top honors with 9.500 scores.

Freshman Allyse Dieringer (Germantown, WI/Germantown) placed atop the field in the uneven bars with a 9.600, which ties for seventh in the UW-W record book. The Warhawks earned four of the top five places in the event.

Whitewater took the top four spots in the balance beam led by Dieringer's 9.725 mark which ties the number one spot in the UW-W record book, sharing the top spot with Ashley George's and Danielle Doll (Ingleside, IL/Carmel Catholic)'s performances in 2009. Junior Katrin Finch (Boise, ID/Boise) and sophomore Katie Thompson (Kingsport, TN/Sullivan South) each scored 9.475 to share second place honors. Sophomore Mary Kate Young (Lawrenceville, GA/Cullins Hill) rounded out the top four with a 9.450. The Warhawks recorded a 47.275 team score on the beam to move into second place in the UW-W record book.

Dieringer also led Whitewater in the floor exercise, tying Hamline's Melissa Thomas with a 9.575 for top honors. Three Warhawks held the next three positions with freshman Kaitlyn Weber (Kansas City, MO/Oak Park) recording a 9.550, Young posted a 9.400 and Finch added a 9.375. The fourth place in the UW-W record book now belongs to the 2011 team after posting a team score of 47.075 on the floor.

Hamline's Lissette La Fex won the all-around competition with a total score of 37.550. Whitewater's Thompson placed second recording a 36.150.

The Warhawks' final team score of 185.275 is good for seventh in the UW-W record book.

Whitewater will travel to Menomonie, WI to face UW-Stout Saturday, January 29th at 6:30. The Warhawks will return to the Williams Center to host UW-Eau Claire for Alumni and Breast Cancer Awareness night at 4:00 pm Saturday, February 5.
