Men's and Women's Track & Field Prepare for WIAC Championships

Beginning this Friday, May 7, UW-River Falls will host the 2010 WIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Men's Track & Field finished off the regular season strong this past weekend in the Winona State Warrior Open, finishing in third place with wins from #Mike Lewis, Jr. at triple jump and (Hartland/Hartland Arrowhead)R.J. Soderman# at javelin. The Men's team was also ranked sixth in the Central/Midwest region in the latest USTFCCCA poll.

Last year, the men finished third in the WIAC Championship with a score of 129.5.  Graduated Matt Kovnesky won the 800 meter run.

Women's Track & Field, who also competed in the Winona State Warrior Open this past weekend, finished in eighth place with key performances from Brooke Bell (Milwaukee/Alexander Hamilton), who provisionally qualified in the 100 and Jessa Luebke (Tomah/Tomah), who placed in two events. The Women's Team was also ranked nineteenth in the nation in the latest USTFCCCA poll.

The women will look to bounce back from last year's championship, as they finished 7th place out of nine teams.  Brooke Bell (Milwaukee/Alexander Hamilton) won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Meet after winning the 100 meters and 200 meters last year.
