2010 Hall of Fame Class Includes Ten

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Athletics Hall of Fame will induct ten members in its class of 2010.  The group includes Cindy Paplham Gramann, Wendy Seymour Scully, Brenda Volk, Renee Hepperla Wedderspoon, Eric Arvold, Tom Stepp, Mike Switalski and James Wilson in the athlete category; and Stephen Summers and Tom Pattison in the Distinguished Service category.  The Hall of Fame newcomers will be introduced at halftime of the October 30 home football game against UW-Stevens Point, and formally inducted at a banquet that evening.  For information about the Athletics Hall of Fame or to purchase banquet tickets contact Jim Miller, UW-W Athletics, Williams Center, UW-Whitewater, Whitewater, Wisconsin  53190.

Following are notes on each of the inductees.

Eric Arvold
Partnered with Jim Winkler to advance to the doubles semi-finals of the 1986 NCAA III tennis championship, the farthest any UW-W tennis competitor has advanced ... also earned a berth in the NCAA meet for singles ... went 26-6 in singles and 28-7 with Winkler in 1986 ... helped UW-W go 20-5 in dual meets while winning the WIAC singles title in 1986 ... won WIAC flight six singles title as a freshman in 1983 and teamed with Randy Englund to win number three doubles in 1984 ... sixth in career singles victories in UW-W record book

Tom Pattison
Long-time radio broadcaster of a variety of Warhawk sports ... first person to broadcast a volleyball game at UW-W ... founder/owner/publisher of Warhawkfootball.com ... former president, and member of many years, of the Quarterback Club and the Tip-Off Club ... worked with athletics on special projects, such as advertising sales for the football program and other sponsorships ... volunteered numerous hours for the athletic program

Cindy Paplham Gramann
Four-time All-America honoree ... named twice CoSIDA and once AVCA All-Midwest Region ... First Team All-WIAC ... Judy Kruckman Scholar Athlete ... helped UW-W win the WIAC regular season title in 1993 and WIAC tournament title in 1994 ... National Sportswoman of the Year finalist ... holds places in the top fifty in the UW-W volleyball record book in thirteen different categories, including multiple listings in some categories

Wendy Seymour Scully
WIAC flight one singles champion 1990 and 1991 ... WIAC flight one doubles champion 1989, 1990, 1991 ... added conference flight two titles, singles and doubles 1988 ... helped team win WIAC title 1988 and 1990 ... is among the top ten, sometimes more than once, in every category in the UW-W women's tennis record book, including the most wins all-time (flight one and overall)

Tom Stepp
Won four individual titles and member of six winning relays in the WIAC championships, including first in 55, 100 (twice) and 200, and the 4x100 relay (three times), 4x200 (twice) and 4x400

Dr. Stephen Summers
Steve has been a supporter of Warhawk athletics for many years, as a member of the Quarterback Club for more than thirty years, as a member of booster groups for baseball, women's basketball and softball, and as a charter member of the Tip-Off Club, which he also served as a board member and president ... Steve and his wife Donna contributed to several facility projects, helping UW-W provide premier venues.  His contributions included serving on the building committee or design team for Kachel Fieldhouse and the Williams Center renovation, the multi-sport complex, Prucha Field at Miller Stadium, turf installation at Perkins Stadium, and advance planning for baseball and softball ... He chaired the university's task force on use of the athletic, physical education and recreation facilities, developing a long range plan for UW-W ... the key advisor to the student fee committee which advises on allocating fees to athletics for many years, he has also served as an informal advisor to athletics on budget proposals and requests.

Mike Switalski
Earned All-America honors four times ... placed eleventh in the 1650 freestyle in 1993 ... placed eighth in that event in 1994, added fourteenth in the 500 freestyle and sixteenth in the 200 ... two-time WIAC champion in the 1650 ... school record holder in the 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle, as part of 300 freestyle relay, 800 individual medley relay, and the mixed distance relay (events no longer on the competition schedule)

Brenda Volk
First Team All-WIAC as a pitcher in 1990 and 1991 ... all-region 1991 ... helped team reach NCAA III championship tournament 1988 and 1991 ... 1990 MVP ... 1991 captain and Martha van Steenderen Sportswoman of the Year for Softball

Renee Hepperla Wedderspoon
UW-W's first gymnast to earn multiple All-America honors with fifth place finish in vault and eighth in all-around at 1988 National Gymnastics Coaches Association championship ... member of team vault and uneven bars units that are still in the UW-W record books ... four year letterwinner

James Wilson
Defense gets its due ... member of the 1982-83 team that advanced to the NCAA final four and followed up with the school's first national title in 1983-84 ... appeared in 103 games for UW-W, always drawing the opposition's top front court scorer ... 295 rebounds in the championship year is third in school record books, and 19 in one game that year also third best all-time ... played before blocked shots were an official statistic
