Four Earn All-Region Recognition

Four members of the UW-Whitewater softball team have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Great Lakes All-Region Team.  Pitcher Jessica Stang (Minnetonka, MN/Minnetonka), infielder Kate McDonnell (Aurora, IL/West Aurora), and outfielder Lauren Cruz (Des Plaines, IL/Maine West) were second team picks.  Shortstop Amanda LeBeau (Worth, IL/Richards) was named to the third team.

Stang, a first team all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics pick, was also first team all-region in 2009.  She went 17-8 with a 1.47 earned run average in 2010.  Opponents batted .182 against her, and she struck out 161 batters in 161 innings.  Stang also added three saves to her season statistics.

McDonnell batted .376 with three home runs and 16 runs batted in.  A first team all-WIAC selection, she made just one error while playing second base for the Warhawks.

Cruz has been second team all-region the last two seasons.  She batted .348, and led the WIAC in home runs with 12 and with 45 runs batted in.  Cruz, all-WIAC First Team, also led the league in total bases.

LeBeau repeated the third team all-region honors she earned in 2009.  She batted .381 with five homers and 40 runs batted in.  LeBeau was the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar Athlete for softball, as well as an honorable mention all-conference pick.

The Warhawks went 31-15 in 2010, finishing third in the WIAC with a 10-6 record.
