Hintz, Halweg Earn Academic All-District Honors

UW-Whitewater men's tennis players Ian Hintz (Burlington/Burlington) and Kyle Halweg (Waunakee/Waunakee) have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District Team.  Hintz was selected for the second team and Hallweg the third team.

The CoSIDA honor emphasizes academic qualifications while also including athletic accomplishments, and campus and community service.  Whitewater's CoSIDA district includes Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota.  The College Division includes National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III teams, NCAA II schools, and National Intercollegiate Athletic Association member institutions.  The recognition is not automatically conferred when meeting a grade or achievement standard, but is competitive on a national ballot.

Hintz, a senior accounting major, has a 3.9 (4.0 scale) cumulative grade point average.  He has received the UW-W Academic Achievement Award, has earned Scholar Athlete designation from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, has been on the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Scholastic honor roll each year, and has made the dean's list every semester.  In April he received a Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award, the highest award given to senior athletes at UW-Whitewater.

Hintz made his mark in Whitewater's doubles lineup.  He teamed with Erik Scanlan (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) to go 20-7 at number two doubles.  He was also 3-1 at number two with Charlie Miller (Marengo, IL/MCHS), and was 2-1 in limited action in singles play.

Halweg is a senior with a 3.85 grade point average and a double major in economics and operations management.  He was in the College of Business and Economics honors program, also serving as a supplemental instruction leader and research assistant in the economic research center.  Halweg was also a national undergraduate research grant recipient.  He served as president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and helped with several campus fund-raising projects.  Halweg was a member of two honor societies, and earned the UW-W Academic Achievement Award, the dean's list, the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll, ITA Scholar Athlete honors, and the Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award.

Hintz and Halweg helped UW-W compile a 22-9 dual meet record, advancing to the second round of the NCAA III championship tournament.  Both also played key roles in Whitewater's national tournament berths in 2008 and 2009.
