UW-Whitewater sophomore Madeline Roznos (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) and junior Sara Poppe (Germantown/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) were named this weeks' UW-W women's track and field athletes of the week with their performance in the Jeff Miller Alternative Meet last Saturday.
Roznos took part in her first race of the season in the steeplechase and posted a time of 11:20.78. She took first in the race and her performance was 20 seconds faster than the next competitor. With her time she broke the Rex Foster Track and Field Complex record. On the Warhawks All-Time list, her time is the second best performance ever for the steeplechase.
Poppe won the long jump and triple jump at the Jeff Miller Alternative Meet. Her long jump distance was 5.69m (18'-8") and her triple jump distance was 11.61m (38'-1.25"), both of which were NCAA Division III provisional qualifying jumps. Her long jump is the second best performance in Warhawks track and field history, second on the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honor roll and is ranked sixth in the nation. She out-jumped the competition by 42cm in the long jump and 45cm in the triple jump.
