The UW-Whitewater women's track and field team had five members travel to the Penn Relays on Thursday to compete against some of the top athletes across all college divisions.
Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) competed in the high jump and
Danielle Anton (Marshall/Marshall),
Jolyn Owen (Middleton/Middleton),
Katherine Timm (Brodhead/Brodhead), and
Ryanne Bell (Boscobel/Boscobel) competed in the 4x400 meter relay and set season best marks in both events.
In the high jump Demos set a season best mark by jumping 1.68 meters (5 feet 6 inches). That mark provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship in May. Demos finished tied for seventh in the field of twenty. She competed against athletes from schools such as Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, Louisville and Indiana.
Anton, Owen, Timm, and Bell were the representative for UW-Whitewater in the 4x400 relay. There were 10 heats, over 80 schools, competing in the event. The Warhawks finished 75th in the field with a time of 4:04.85, a season best for Whitewater. In this event UW-W competed with the likes of Texas, Arkansas, LSU, Penn State and Oregon.
