The UW-Whitewater women's bowling team had their season come to an end in the second round of the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championship on Friday in El Paso, Texas. The Warhawks lost 4-1 in the first round to Robert Morris and lost a heartbreaker in the second round to St. Ambrose 4-3. The Warhawks earned the ten seed after Thursday's qualifying rounds. The entire USBC Team Championship uses Baker style competition and scoring. After Thursday's qualifying rounds the tournament shifted to double-elimination bracket style play.
The first round match against Robert Morris lasted five games. Robert Morris won the first three games before UW-W won game four. None of the first four games saw either team break 200. The fifth game featured some higher scores with both teams breaking the 200 mark but Robert Morris came out on top to win 4-1.
The second round match went back and forth as St. Ambrose took the first two games in convincing fashion. The 'Hawks came back to win the third game by 40 pins and then won a tight fourth game by three pins. St. Ambrose won game five but the Warhawks knotted things up 3-3 by winning a low scoring game six. The seventh game came down to the tenth frame but the Warhawks, who bowled first, were unable to strike and put the pressure on St. Ambrose. St. Ambrose needed at least an 8 to tie but got a strike to win by two pins.
