Justine Weyer (Colgate/Germantown) went out on top.  The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater senior won the vault title Saturday at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championship hosted by Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.  Warhawk gymnasts earned a total of eight All-America honors in the individual event competition Saturday.  See UW-W Gymnastics Championship Central

Weyer won the vault with a 9.70, tied for the fifth best score in school history.  She owns the eight best scores in the school record book in the vault, and nine of the top eleven.  Weyer became the first two-time champion in school history, having also won the NCGA vault title in 2008.  Her vault championship Saturday is the fourth individual title ever for UW-W, following Nicole Hoida on the balance beam in 2000 and Ashley George (East Dubuque, IL/East Dubuque) on the uneven bars last year in addition to Weyer's 2008 win in the vault.

Freshman Katie Thompson (Kingsport, TN/Sullivan South) led four Warhawks to All-America honors on the uneven bars, placing fourth with a score of 9.275.  She was followed by teammates Laruen Corrigan, seventh at 9.225; Weyer tenth at 8.95; and Annie Mix (Olive Branch, MS/SBEC), eleventh at 8.825.  Meghans Hargens of UW-Stout won the uneven bars with a score of 9.65.

Thompson earned her second All-America honor Saturday with a seventh place finish on the balance beam.  She scored 9.375, with Kira Oldham-Curtis of Ursinus College winning the bars with a 9.625.

Mary Kate Young (Lawrenceville, GA/Cullins Hill) led UW-W with an eighth place finish in the floor exercise at 9.375, with Weyer joining her on the All-America list with a tenth place finish at 9.30.  Gaby Hooper of UW-La Crosse won the floor exercise with a score of 9.725.

Weyer finished fourth in the all-around competition Friday night, with Thompson placing seventh to give both All-America status in that event.  Their three All-America finishes in the national meet equals the school's best performance ever, tying Weyer's accomplishment in 2008 (first vault;, third uneven bars, fifth all-around).

With the two All-America honors earned Saturday, Weyer closes her career with eight, the most in the history of UW-W gymnastics.

The top ten gymnasts in the all-around competition are accorded All-America status, with the top twelve in each of the four specialties also honored.  Places 1-6 are first team all-Americans, 7-12 are second team.  (Comparisons to earlier years take into consideration that All-America status changed from the top six to the top twelve in 2007.)

UW-Whitewater finished third in the team standings in Friday's competition, equaling the school's best finish ever in the NCGA championship.
