Heidi Sonntag Named to Cosida Academic All-District Team

Senior guard Heidi Sonntag (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) has earned Third Team Academic College Division All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America.  The team is sponsored by ESPN The Magazine.  The team honors players who excel as students and athletes.

Sonntag ranks in the top 15% of her class, holding a 3.72 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) while majoring in accounting and finance in UW-W's College of Business and Economics. She is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, is a recipient of  the Marilyn Stark Benson Accounting Scholarship and has been part of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for the past four years.

Sonntag's numbers are just as good on the court.  She is a three year starter, helping bring the team to the Final Four in 2008, while earning another NCAA III tournament berth in 2009. In her three years of starting, the team has had a combined record of 67-16, while going 35-9 in conference.

As of Jan. 15th, Sonntag's career totals in the UW-W record book include: twelfth in scoring, fifth in three-point field goals attempted and sixth in three point shots made, third in three-point field-goal percentage, and fifteenth in assists.

So far this year, Sonntag has started all 21 games, averaging 11 points a game, shooting 42% from the field.  She is also shooting 87% from the free throw line, best on the team.

The College Division of CoSIDA includes all schools affiliated with Division II and Division III of the NCAA, as well as National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) members.  Whitewater's district includes Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Indiana.
