The UW-Whitewater wrestling team, ranked twenty-first in the Brute/Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll, dropped their dual meet season opener against the UW-Oshkosh Titans 24-21 Wednesday night at the Kolf Fieldhouse in Oshkosh.

Whitewater fell behind to begin the match suffering pins in the first two individual matches at 125 and 133. An 8-5 decision at 141 put the Warhawks down 15-0. UW-W got on the board with a pin in the 149 pound weight class by
Adam Spatchek (Reedsville/Reedsville) (1-0) to put six points on the board.
Cade Sarbacker (Mineral Point/Iowa-Grant) (1-0) added to the Whitewater scoring with a 9-4 decision over Trevor Dyreson to bring the Warhawks to within pin distance 15-9.
Oshkosh extended its lead to 18-9 with a 5-2 decision at 165 pounds. UW-W's
Cheston Kesselhon (East Troy/East Troy) answered with a pin in 3:23 over Aaron Geiger to pick up his third win of the season. Sam Engelland, ranked seventh in the 184 pound weight class, put the Titans up six with two weight classes left.
Whitewater's
Adam Latella (Rockton, IL/Hononegah), ranked seventh in the 197 pound weight class, recorded the fastest pin by a Warhawk this season, just 50 seconds, to even the score 21-21.
James Zarate (Waukesha/North) took it to the limit, and beyond, in the decisive match of the meet but Oshkosh's Jason Laplante got the win 5-4 in double overtime to give the Titans the victory.
UW-W opens both the 2010 dual season and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition 0-1-0.
Whitewater will travel to Evanston, IL to compete in the Northwestern Duals Sunday, November 14.
