Warhawk Swimmers 2nd at Point Invite

The UW-Whitewater men's swimming and diving team made a strong showing by finishing second at the Point Invite hosted by UW-Stevens Point on Friday and Saturday.  The 'Hawks tallied 648 points and fell short of first place UW-Stevens Point (1123 points) in the field of seven teams.  UW-W recorded six season best times and had two first place finishers.

Top UW-W Finishers by Event (Men and Women)

Bill Stenavich won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:46.80 and Andy Hanney won the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:56.59 to lead the Warhawks.  Stenavich was also a fifth place finisher in the 100 freestyle (49.73).  Hanney turned in a time of 4:39.51 to finish fourth in the 400 individual medley, and was a part of two 4th place finishing relay teams (800 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay).

Marcus Genrich swam a season best 2:03.78 in the 200 individual medley to finish fifth.  Genrich also swam a season best time of 2:18.08 in the prelims of the 200 breaststroke.  Genrich was also the top finisher for UW-W in the 100 breaststroke finishing in 1:03.29 for sixth place.  He also swam a season best time for the same event in the preliminaries, 1:02.41.

Also turning in a couple of top ten performances was Kyle Stoermer.  Stoermer finished third in the 200 freestyle (1:51.45), and sixth in the 1650 freestyle (17:30.95, a season best time.  He was also a part of the fourth place 800 freestyle relay team.

Other Warhawks placing in the top ten in various events included: Nate Glover, Adam Altenburg, Landon Joiner, Jacob Christensen, Henry Martin, Paul Ringer, Eric Nord, William Thanholt, Alex Mikolajewski, Mason Kohlhapp, and James Anderson.

The men return to the pool on January 30 when the travel to UW-Eau Claire.
