Fall 2009 Men's Tennis Preview

Hello Warhawk Tennis fans, the men's tennis team has been working hard and looks to be ready for the annual trip to the Midwest Regional ITA tournament in St Peter, Minnesota next week (Oct 2-4).  The entire team has been working extremely hard and looking forward to the upcoming tournament where they will be able to play someone else rather than each other.  This is the only competition for the men's team in the fall.  The main season starts in January with a match against the Wisconsin Badgers and ends in May pending another trip to the NCAA tournament.

This year the team will be led by senior captains Kelvin Caiati (Greendale/Greendale), Danny Glinert (Madison/Edgewood), and Kyle Halweg (Waunakee/Waunakee).  In addition to the captains we have two other returning starters from last year's NCAA team, Tim Moller (Stevens Point/Stevens Point Area High School) and Erik Scanlan (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville), looking to continue to do damage.

Charlie Miller (Marengo, IL/MCHS), Brady Porter (Madison/Memorial), Mark Sansait (Rolling Meadows, IL/Rolling Meadows), and Will Krieger (Hartland/Arrowhead) are all looking to make the leap into regular starting roles with the departure of graduated seniors Alex Lowe (Oswego, IL/Oswego), Erich Palecek (Franklin/Greendale), and Alex Mory (Madison/East).  The new talented freshmen also clawing to get action will be Logan Covelli (Racine/Washington Park), RJ Rademacher (Deephaven, MN/Minnetonka), Ben Schwartz (Shorewood/Shorewood), and Derek Taylor (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Eagan).

Next semester we are also looking forward to the return of Ian Hintz (Burlington/Burlington) and Mike Harmatys (Brookfield/East) who are unable to play at the ITAs this semester.

Last year there were many highlights for the men and they will work hard to continue these trends.  The team had its fourth consecutive 20-win season, its third straight trip to the NCAA tournament, making the round of 32, and now have not lost a conference match in 5 seasons.  Six members of the team were honored nationally as ITA scholar athletes earning GPAs over 3.5 and the team was selected as an ITA All-Academic team for the 5th consecutive year.  During the season last year the Hawks were ranked as high as #32 nationally and #9 in the region.
