Softball Ends Run in NCAA Tourney with loss to IWU

The thirteenth ranked UW-Whitewater softball team (36-6) lost to UW-Eau Claire (29-15 overall) 5-1 Thursday in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III regional tournament hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois May 7-10. In round two, the Warhawks defeated Coe College with a score 1-0 in the 2:00 Friday match. The Warhawks went on to defeat UW-Eau Claire on Saturday by a score of 7-2 in nine innings. The Warhawks then played Illinois Wesleyan later on Saturday and lost 4-1. Whitewater is now eliminated from the NCAA tournament. UW-W was the number one seed in the double elimination regional tournament. UW-W won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title this season, repeating its 2008 championship. The Warhawks advanced through regional play to the NCAA III title game, finishing second in the Final Eight. UW-W has seven athletes on the 2009 All-WIAC Team.
NCAA regional tickets cost six dollars for adults, three dollars for students and senior citizens and free for children two years and under.
