The Warhawk Shoe Drive is coming to an end! Please have your shoes turned in to the athletic department at the end of the day Friday, April 10th. The UW-Whitewater Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) is sponsoring a One World Running shoe drive.
Between now and April 10th, individuals can drop off their used running shoes, soccer cleats, baseball shoes, etc. to the Williams Center Equipment Room. Shoes are being collected and will be donated to: One World Running.
Since 1986, a group of runners in Boulder, Colorado, has collected, washed and sent to developing countries athletic shoes, along with T-shirts, shorts, medicine and school supplies. One World Running is an all-volunteer, Colorado non-profit organization with federal 501-c-3 tax-exempt status. Any donated funds go directly to shipping.
A portion of the shoes are also donated to shelters and churches in the U.S. Some shoes are new; others are "near-new." Those that are worn out and not suitable for use are sent to Nike through Boulder's Eco-Cycle, to be ground up and made into running tracks and playgrounds through the Reuse-a-Shoe program.
