UW-W Fourth in WIAC Meet After Day One

UW-Whitewater is in fourth place after the first of three days of competition in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wisconsin Thursday.

Whitewater's 200 freestyle relay team of Riston Furseth, Matt Wiswell, Adam Altenburg, and Eric Nord swam a season best 1:28.75 in the preliminaries, and  then another Warhawk foursome  topped that with a school record 1:25.04 and a third place in the finals.  That group included, Mike HuffmanMatt WiswellBill Stenavich, Nate Glover.  The 400 medley relay also finished third, touching in a team season best time of 3:33.37.  That group included Jacob Christensen, Nick Haydon, Tyler Slak, and Altenburg.

The top individual finish for UW-W was Matt Mintz's fourth in the 500 freestyle, another team season best, with a time of 4:44.55.  Mike Huffman was right behind Mintz, placing fifth in the 50 freestyloe in 21.45.  Tyler Slak added a tenth place in the 200 individual medley in 2:01.18, yet another team season best.  Dane Dzubinski matched the tenth place finish, in one meter diving, with his season best total of 356.30 points.

The Warhawks also set two season bests as part of relays, with the leadoff 50 of the 200 freestyle clocked in 21.38, and the 100 backstroke of the 400 medley relay touching in 54.97.
