Broken “45”: The record watch continues. With a sack last week in the Stevens Point game, DE Anthony White (Milwaukee/Bay View) is alone in eighth place in the UW-W record book with 18 career sacks. Next in line, Marty Vosburg (1995-97), Jim Vogel (1977-78) and Nick Zolper (2001-2004) with 19. WR Aaron Rusch (Hartford/Hartford) added to his school record for career interceptions, now at 168, and is fourth in career yards with 2.343. Jim Leszczynski (2002-2005) is in third at 2,547. Whitewater Last Week: UW-W gave UW-Stevens Point its first WIAC loss, 41-12 at Goerke Field. The Warhawks never trailed, with the 14-0 first quarter lead and 21-6 halftime margin the closest the Pointers would get. Whitewater broke the game open with 17 points in the third. UW-Whitewater has still not allowed an opponent to score in the first quarter this season (83-0). Stephan Jonsson (Spain/Argeniona Bocs) helped set up two Whitewater scores, blocking a punt and forcing a Pointer into his kicker for what was credited as a “team” block on another occasion. Levell Coppage (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park) rushed for 199 yards on 23 carries against a defense that wasn't giving up 100 yards rushing as a team total. The Warhawk defense limited UW-SP to 54 yards rushing on 26 attempts. The “no name” defense made its case again, with 24 Warhawks recording a tackle. That compares to 17 Pointers on the defensive chart. The same is true of league statistics, where you won't find many Warhawks mentioned among the leaders in defensive stats -- but where UW-W as a team leads the WIAC in scoring defense and total defense (yards given up).
For the Defense: UW-W defenders have given up just one rushing touchdown this season, and opponents are averaging 2.6 yards per attempt. The Warhawks are giving up just 88.8 yards rushing per game, and 7.0 points per game.

Oshkosh QB Nate Wara, another Chip Hilton type threat, completed 36-46 passes for 358 yards and three touchdowns -- and he led the Titans with 64 yards rushing on 18 attempts. When you hear coaches talk about a balanced offense the Titans last week must be the model, rushing 46 times (200 yards) and passing 48 (358). Juston Wara kept it in the family with eight catches for 98 yards, and Jamie Braasch went over the 100 yard mark, 101, on his five receptions. Oshkosh led in the game as late 28-26 at halftime. Cory Sartorelli rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns, and Kyle Paulson tossed for TD passes for the Blugolds.

Jeremy Roach led the Titans with 32 yards rushing on nine carries, and UW-O used three quarterbacks in the game. UW-O had the top two tacklers in the game, Chris Lins with 12 (five solo) and James Taraboi with 10 plus 1.5 for a loss.
Oshkosh This Year: Nate Wara is the man who makes it happen. Wara is completing 65% of his passes for 163.5 yards per game. He has thrown for nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Wara is also an effective runner, with 342 yards and a 3.9 average. Wara is part of a hydra in the backfield, with Jeremy Roach leading UW-O with 95 carries for 498 yards (5.2/carry) and Charlie Weissman right behind with 78 carries for 453 yards (5.8). UW-O has been even more judicious in spreading the ball around to receivers, with eight pass catchers in double figures. Jamie Braasch leads the group with four touchdowns and an 18.2 per catch average, with Juston Budiac number one on the team with 26 receptions. Linebacker James Taraboi, with 114 tackles, is among the leading tacklers in Division III. He also has 13.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 QB sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble recovered.
