Seven members of the UW-Whitewater men's soccer team were selected for the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team. Matt Gehn was honored in two categories and head coach Greg Henschel was named WIAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year.\
Forward Luke Buchholz, midfielders Matt Gehn and Dan Montanye, defenders Steve Nashleanas and Ryan Richgels, and goalkeeper Andrew Krueger were the six Warhawk players honored. Gehn was also UW-Whitewater's representative on the WIAC Sportsmanship Team.
Buchholz led the Warhawks in goals, 12, and total points, 26. He had four game winning goals. Montanye led UW-W with six assists and was second in total points with 14. Gehn was credited with a goal and an assist this season. UW-W's defenders, led by Nashleanas and Richgels, limited opponents to over 100 fewer shots than the Warhawks took, held opponents to a .104 shot percentage and 1.05 goals per game, and allowed just ten shots per game.
Gehn and Richgels were named Second Team All-Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America after the 2008 season. The 2009 all-region team has not been announced.
A total of twenty-two players earn All-WIAC honors, and each school selects its member of the sportsmanship team.
2009 was the first season that the WIAC sponsored men's soccer. UW-Platteville, UW-Superior, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater were joined by Finlandia College (associate member) to provide the minimum number of teams necessary for a league sponsorship.
UW-Whitewater went 3-0-1 to win the league's first championship. The Warhawks advanced to the second round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III championship tournament, ending the year 12-6-3.
