Austin Bautista (Des Plaines, IL/Maine East), Reid Dickerson (Indianapolis, IN/North Central), and Sean Pietrzyk (Salina, KS/Salina South) all captured second place in their weight class to lead the Warhawk wrestling team at the Concordia Open in Mequon, Wisconsin Saturday. There were no team scores in the competition.
Bautista, ranked second in Division III, went 4-1 at 141 pounds, losing the championship match 2-1 to Chris Sandy of Wartburg College, the sixth ranked team in Division III. Bautista is 5-1 this season.
Dickerson won five in a row before falling to Chris Karls of seventeenth ranked UW-Stevens Point 4-3.
Pietrzyk also rolled through his first three matches, then lost 8-5 to Ben Engelland of UW-SP.
James Zarate (Waukesha/North) at 285 and Corey Schmidt (Homewood, IL/Homewood Flossmoor) at 165 placed third and fourth, respectively, in their classes.
UW-Whitewater is ranked nineteenth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll.
The Warhawks will compete at the University of Chicago Tuesday the 24th. The next home appearance will be December 10 at 7:00, with UW-Oshkosh visiting Kachel Gym of Williams Center.
