WIAC Conference Team Named

The 2009 WIAC All-Conference Team was released earlier this morning.  Four Warhawk players earned All-Conference honors, while Emily Gerber was named Player of the Year.

Earning first-team honors for the 2009 season were senior midfielder, Becky Cera, sophomore forward, Emily Gerber, freshman goalkeeper, Jacqueline Piasecki, and junior defender, Jenna Samp.  Gerber was also voted player of the year, leading the 22 individuals named to the All-WIAC team.  Cera was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Senior, Becky Cera also received First Team All-WIAC honors in the 2007 season.  This season Cera lead the WIAC and the Warhawks in assists with 10, averaging .5 per game.  This is a new Warhawk season record, passing the old record of 9, held by Becky Barr in 1996.  She also scored 18 points for the Warhawks, which was second on the team, only behind Gerber, and tenth in the WIAC.  Cera also added four goals for the Warhawks this season and was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Sophomore, Emily Gerber was named Player of the Year, leading the WIAC in goals, tallying 24 for the season, while averaging 1.2 per game.  With 24 goals, Gerber now holds the Warhawk record for most goals in a season, surpassing Wendy Scott who had 20 in 2000.   She also lead the conference and team in points, with 49.  This is also a new season record, passing the old record of 45 also held by Wendy Scott in 2000.  Gerber was nominated for WIAC offensive player of the week four times this season.  This was Gerber's first All-Conference Team honor.

Junior, Jenna Samp was named to her first WIAC All-Conference team this year.  She helped lead the Warhawk defense to allowing an average of 1.25 goals per game and a 12.9 shot percentage.  Samp was named WIAC defensive player of the week twice this season.

Freshman, Jacqueline Piasecki was also named to her first WIAC All-Conference team this year.  Piasecki lead the Warhawks and ranked tenth in the WIAC in saves with 44 this season.  Her save percentage ranked second on the team and sixth in the WIAC with 75.9%.  She allowed only 14 goals in 12 games this season, with an average on 1.31 goals against per game.

The Warhawks ended their season 11-8-1, finishing 4th in the WIAC.
