Sherry Diamond graduated from Hononegah High School in Rockton, Illinois in 1966. She was an active member of the Girl's Athletic Association, was elected president her senior year, and was voted most athletic by her classmates. Sherry attended Rock Valley Junior College in Rockford, Illinois and was a member of that college's first athletic teams in volleyball, basketball and softball. In 1977 she was the first woman inducted into the Rock Valley College Hall of Fame. After transferring to UW-Whitewater, Sherry was a member and officer of the Women's Recreation Association and the Southeastern Wisconsin Board of Officials and participated in six different intercollegiate teams in two years. She was selected Most Valuable Player in softball and volleyball, Honorary Captain in softball, most improved player in field hockey, won first place in the javelin at the Wisconsin State Track and Field meet in 1971 and attended the 1971 National Track and Field Championships in Cheney, Washington. She was also on the number one doubles team in tennis and a starting center on the basketball team. After her collegiate years Sherry was selected to the 1975 A.S.A. All-American Softball Team and played professional softball for the Chicago Ravens in 1976. Sherry received her Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1971 from UW-Whitewater and her Master of Science degree in secondary education in 1978 from Utah State University where she was assistant softball coach of a team that finished fifth at the national tournament in Omaha, Nebraska. After teaching one semester at Roosevelt Middle School in Rockford, Illinois, Sherry returned to Hononegah High School where she has been teaching and coaching for the last sixteen years. She initiated the girl's athletic program in 1973 and coached all five of the sports that were offered. She has retained the position of varsity volleyball coach and has won five conference championships and a district championship while building a lifetime winning record of seventy-three percent. Sherry was selected as the SHARK Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1978, the Northern Illinois Conference Volleyball Coach of the year in both 1983 and 1986 and was Hononegah Teacher of the Year in 1983. Sherry currently resides in Edgerton, Wisconsin and is a private pilot in her spare time.
