The only member to be inducted into the Whitewater Hall of Fame post-humously will be Charles "Chick" Agnew, Whitewater coach and athletic director from 1920 to 1942.  Agnew assumed the honor originally two years ago when the "W" Club Alumni Association named him to the Hall of Fame.  He will formally be inducted into the group on Saturday, October 2.  During his tenure as football coach at Whitewater, his teams never finished below third.  In the 22 years, four undisputed championships were taken, two ties for championships were recorded, nine second place finishes were noted and seven third place finishes ended the record.  Agnew was a native of Whitewater, as he was born on a farm about two miles from the University.  He attended Whitewater schools and then graduated from the University in 1917.  He was named to the All-Normal Conference teams four years as a left tackle and was a member of the championship team in 1914 that captured the football crown.  Fellow Hall of Fame member Phillip Dorr was a member of the same team and William Schreiber was coach.  Agnew was also a member of the 1915 Normal Conference Baseball team that captured 10 straight games.  In addition to his record as a leader in his playing days and a successful mentor, Agnew was also active in city affairs.  He was a member of the Whitewater City Council at the time of his death.  Agnew also served as the Whitewater Red Cross chairman during the first year of World War II.  Following his graduation in 1917, Agnew taught for a year at Mr. Horeb high school, and then joined the army, seeing overseas duty on the European front.  Just prior to his death in 1942 he inspected officer training facilities at Iowa City, Iowa.
